Machine Performance Revolves Around the Hammer
You’ve heard the old saying, “If your hammer isn’t happy, then nobody’s happy!” Maybe that’s a stretch, but if the hammer on your Geoprobe® machine isn’t properly maintained, then operating and performance problems will start cropping up in the field. Darren Stanley, Geoprobe® Service Manager stated, “One of the first questions our Service Team will ask if you call in with machine problems is, ‘Have you charged your hammer recently?’.” Inconsistency with the percussion function of either the GH60 or GH40 series hammers could be a lack of nitrogen charge in the hammer accumulator. The percussion function may lack snap or completely fail as a result of inadequate nitrogen charge. The hammer charging process is easy, takes about 10 minutes (15 minutes if you have to read the instructions!). “Investing such a small amount of time for hammer charging on a regular basis will save time, money, and frustration in the field,” Darren concluded.
