Dave Golden, Geoprobe® EngineerCollect Geotechnical Soil Data With Your Geoprobe® Machine Using New Shelby Tube Head

Dave Golden, Geoprobe® Engineer

Using your equipment to its fullest potential is a positive thing. A new Shelby Tube Head (39625) from Geoprobe Systems® adds to the versatility of your Geoprobe® machine and makes it possible to acquire geotechnical soil data from a relatively limited access machine. The 3-in. Shelby Tube Head works with the MC5 threaded drive head. Or it can be used with 4.5 in. rods to retrieve 3-in. Shelby tube samples from inside direct push casing when used under an 8040DT machine. Combined with the DH100 Automatic Drop Hammer, the ability to collect Shelby tubes in addition to split spoons increases the ability of a Geoprobe® machine to complete full-scale geotechnical site assessments. “For those of you who like to extrude the Shelby tube onsite to field test the sample,” said David Golden, Geoprobe® Product Development Specialist, “the same Shelby Tube Head that’s used to push the tube also threads onto the Geoprobe® Hydraulic Liner Extruder to do double duty as a Shelby tube extruder. With the extruder mounted to the machine, the ability to quickly move around a site enhances productivity. Operating off the rig allows samples to be extruded and logged while the next
sample is collected.
