MIP Project Summary: Innovative Brownfield Management

Innovative Brownfield Management MIP at Work Jon Marchant, Project Superintendent for SER, sister company of Innovative Brownfield Management, uses a 6620DT to collect MIP data in the field.
Using Voxler Software
Using Voxler® software, the project team created 3-D images such as this to depict the BTEX plume in groundwater.

“The MIP technology is a wonderful tool. Coupled with the 6620DT machine we can go about anywhere and achieve a lot in a short period of time.”
Sammy Sirhan, Vice President and Principal Geologist
Innovative Brownfield Management • Mishawaka, IN

Innovative Brownfield Management in Mishawaka, IN, used the MIP system with their 66 0DT to delineate soil and groundwater at a 5-acre terminal site in 0 days. The land owner is a national oil company with strict requirements. But after seeing the results of the MIP logging and the accuracy of the system, they quickly accepted MIP technology and are currently considering nationwide applications for the technology. The oil company was impressed with the wealth of information collected by the MIP, and was especially pleased that there was almost no waste generated at the site ... close to zero pounds. This resulted in a drastic savings which normally would be associated with conventional drilling and sampling waste management.

With the MIP, the field team was successful in detection as low as 100 ug/L single constituent BTEX in water, as low as 0 parts per million of total petroleum in soil, and as low as 500 ug/kg single BTEX constituent in soil. The wealth of data obtained enabled Innovative Brownfield’s to estimate the subsurface formation, water levels, and degree and type of contamination. The other alternative for the client was to spend thousands of dollars and multiple cycles of mobilizations of drilling contractors to delineate the plume.

Currently, Innovative Brownfield Management is using MIP technology to map sand seams in the subsurface, and assess potential leaks in an industrial containment pond.
